Webinar 4 – Homeschooling Tips – Tackling Times Tables
Dr Paul Swan describes a variety of ways to teach basic multiplication facts, aka “the tables.” Dr Paul Swan has written a book “Tackling Tables” and a follow up Dice Games for Tables, along with developing a step by step approach to teach basic facts known as Milestones which may be downloaded from http://drpaulswan.com.au
Webinar 5 – Homeschooling Tips- Making the Most of Pattern Blocks
In this webinar Dr Paul Swan will describe just some of the things that you can do with Pattern Blocks. The webinar will begin with activities and games suited to younger children and finish with some problem solving tasks for older children. Participants are encouraged to have a set of Pattern Blocks in front of them so as to gain the most from this webinar. For the work sheet mentioned in this video, you can always download a paper copy here.
Webinar 6 – Homeschooling Tips – Dominoes Mathematics
In this webinar Dr Paul Swan will describe just some of the things that you can do with a double-six set of dominoes. The webinar will begin with activities and games suited to younger children and finish with some problem solving tasks for older children. Participants are encouraged to have a set of dominoes in front of them so as to gain the most from this webinar. If you don’t have a set available you can always download a paper here (for free). You will need to have the paper dominoes cut out ready to use.
Webinar 7 – Homeschooling Tips – Maths Activities with Cubes
We will be talking about cubes with Dr Paul Swan. Looking at the mathematical value of cubes with a variety of activities from addition to geometry, and problem solving. If participants have 2cm Linking cubes they can follow along with the tasks and activities.
Webinar 8 – Homeschooling Tips – Toying with Tangrams
Our series on Making the Most of Manipulatives, we will feature the Tangrams. Many people view the Tangrams as simply a puzzle but Dr Paul Swan will demonstrate a range of measurement and geometry concepts and even fraction understanding may be developed with the humble Tangrams. Participants are encouraged to download a Tangram from our website or http://www.drpaulswan.com.au and cut it out prior to watching the webinar so they can participate in the activities and gain the most from the session.
Webinar 9 – Homeschooling Tips – Developing Number Sense with a Number Board
It is amazing how much mathematics may be generated using a number board. In this webinar Dr Paul Swan will use a 1 – 120 Number Board, a few counters and a dry erase marker to highlight counting, calculating, place value and even a little bit of algebraic thinking. Webinar 10 – Homeschooling Tips – Teaching with Tiles
This simple manipulative is extremely versatile and may be used to support the learning of measurement and geometry ideas such as area and symmetry as well as teach children about number patterns and algebra.
