SIMPLE COLORED WATER TABLE ACTIVITY

What you need:

– large sensory table or bin (ours is the Edx Education Sand and Water Table, large size)
– Crayola Bath Dropz (we got ours at Walmart, $3.97)
– pestle and mortar
– some scoops and containers (we used our Edx Education Cylinders)

How it works:

My kids both love playing with colored water, especially when they get to be in control of adding the color! I wanted to give them a hands-on way to experiment with adding colors to their big water table so we had a go at crushing bath drops!

The kids LOVED getting their hands on the pestle and mortar! They were great at working together to crush the color drops!

Once the tablets were all crushed up, they would add it to the big table of water and mix it all in.

There was so much sensory exploration happening as they experimented with mixing colors. Using the pestle and mortar also acted as a great fine and gross motor skill workout.

It wasn’t long before the crushing, mixing and pouring all started happening in the water table. They were so excited and couldn’t stop adding more color drops to see how it changed the overall water color.

A solid hour of water play followed. They used the cylinders to create potions, creatively making up stories of zombie blood and frog slime!

A huge advantage of a set up like this is that it is so open-ended and really encourages my kids to play collaboratively. Look at them side by side, despite having the entire table to use!

This is definitely an activity we will repeat over the summer. Simple but so much fun!
